See this. Her’s is a platycorn. Why? 🦄
Well, I’ve been labeled as a unicorn. It’s not a bad thing! I clearly don’t mind being associated with all things magic, sparkly, and rainbow covered. But I’ve never really identified with that label, as much as I love it. 🦄
The animal I’ve always felt the most kinship with is the platypus. Cute, but not easily defined. It’s a mammal, but it lays eggs, but it nurses it’s young, but it also tries really hard to be a duck, but it just is what it is and what it is above all else is complicated. 🦄
I’m a copywriter, but I’m an actor, but I also have an opera degree (but don’t ask me to sing for you), and I was a pastry chef, but that was kindof an accident, and. The story goes on, and it’s just like a platypus: cute, but complicated. 🦄
I’m learning to identify more with the unicorn; I know I’m crazy unique in what I bring to the table, and that the bizarre mish-mash of professions I’ve had (and have) all make me into a valuable asset on any creative marketing team. 🦄
Most days, I still feel like a platypus. But this sweet little doodle from @josephrooks reminds me that it’s ok to be a platypus; so long as I don’t forget that I’m a unicorn too. 🦄
If you want your own doodle, contact my friend Joseph! He’s real good at them. Maybe you need a unique valentine for your kiddo, or maybe you just need to remember that it’s ok to be a platycorn.

They say that to grow as a human, you need to do one thing that scares you every day. Well, calls scare me. ☎️ No, I don’t avoid phone calls because I’m an avocado toast worshipping millennial who exclusively uses text messages to stay in contact with people. Although, that too.
☎️ If you follow me outside of my CopySparkle threads, you are aware that I have a history of being abused. My phone was my leash, and I never knew what was going to happen when I called for my nightly check-in. Sometimes I’d be yelled at for not being excited enough about the prospect of a visit, sometimes it was all sunshine and rainbows. I never knew which version of the person who supposedly loved me that I’d be speaking to that evening. ☎️
Well, that relationship has been done for some time now. I think it’s high time I conquered my fear of phone calls on my own terms, don’t you? ☎️
I did the laundry yesterday, so my big girl panties are ready. Here we go! ☎️

I’m exhausted. My tiny human decided to throw a party last night (again) from 12:30-2:30. She had a blasty blast, but today? Today we’re both dragging. Know what I’m gonna do?
Write anyway. Create anyway. Do The Thing anyway. Words are art, and being able to art for a living is an honor. 😴
So. Today, imma push through the sleepies, and ignore that voice that tells me that I can just take a nap when she goes down. I’m going to write. I’m going to create. Because I don’t want to waste a single precious day of this one life that I get to live. 😴
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. 😴
SUPER IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE: if your body needs rest, it is NOT a waste of time to give yourself a break. I just have a story burning at my fingertips, and I need to let it out before I lose it and it decides it likes another storyteller better. You know you best❤️
For those of you who recently started following; hi! I’m Jess. I’m a copywriter, and these two tiny humans are my Why.
I began writing when my son was born as a way to stay connected with my love of storytelling (I’m an actor), and I fell in love. I started looking for a way to make a living with words, and well, here we are. ✨
CopySparkle is my business, and it started with those two little stinkers in mind. I can be in “Jess, the marketing professional” mode, and switch back to Mom at the drop of a hat when they need me. I have to hustle to make it work, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. ✨
